
native of Orlando, Florida, Alyce Droege now maintains residence in Florida, and North Carolina with her husband of 43 years. Alyce has been growing violets since her grandmother taught her the basics forty-eight years ago. Now she passes on that knowledge through approximately 40 speaking engagements and seminars per year. Her shop, African Violets by Florals of Fredericks, (now known as African Violets by Fredericks, Inc.) where she has grown and hybridized violets for 16 years, is a Mecca for African Violet and gesneriad devotees from all over the country.
founding member of numerous violet clubs, Alyce is now a life member of the African Violet Society of America and the Dixie African Violet Society. She is currently serving as a director in both clubs and is an active Senior Judge. She has been a past president of both the African Violet Council of Florida, and the African Violet Association of Gardeners, as well as holding many other offices and positions. This active participation and encouragement to the African Violet growers community, led her to be the 1994 recipient of the Hudson Memorial Award for Affiliate Leadership. She is also a member of the African Violet Society of Canada, Indoor Gardening Society of America, American Federation of Garden Clubs, Mid-Atlantic AVS, Nutmegger AVS, Heart of Florida AVS, Gesneriad Society International, AGGS, and the Tampa Bay Gesneriad Society.
